SSANU & NASU to commence Strike by Midnight

Despite efforts by the federal government to quell another strike in Nigerian universities, two non-teaching staff unions have directed their members to down tool from midnight, Friday, February 5.

In a circular to universities branches and signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi and SSANU President, Mohammed Haruna, workers are directed to stay away from work, since a meeting with government on Tuesday, February 2, failed to address their demands.

SSANU and NASU are asking for their members to be removed from intergrated payroll and personnel information system.

The unions are demanding payment of benefits to retired members as well as increased funding for state universities.

SSANU and NASU are also asking for fairness in the sharing formula of ₦40 billion earn academic allowance approved for all four university-based unions.

The workers argue that the government has approved 80% for academic staff union of universities, ASUU and 20% for non-teaching staff unions of SSANU, NASU and NAAT.
