The APC National Secretary, Caretaker, and Chairman of the Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe recently disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan will be granted founding member status and allowed to contest for the Presidential seat.
Nonetheless, he emphasized that Jonathan’s candidacy does not ensure victory and that he will have to contest for the party’s nomination alongside other members. For the first time, Akpanudoedehe revealed he had heard that they were expecting the former President.
He also mentioned that the party’s last National Executive Council offered blanket clearance to anyone who joined the party today, making them a founding member. As a result, everybody who joins the party at the moment has the same chance to run for any position inside the organization. He stated it’s always been that way, and he wasn’t speculating.
Several APC governors, including Mai Mala Buni, the APC’s caretaker/extra-ordinary national convention planning committee chairman, paid an extraordinary visit to the former president in November 2020. Peoples Democratic Party, on the other hand, refuted rumors that Jonathan was planning to switch from the PDP to the APC ahead of the 2023 elections.
