South Africa: Jacob Zuma’s Lawyers quit ahead of Trial

One of Jacob Zuma’s leading lawyers and his team of attorneys have filed a notice of withdrawal from his case to the Pietermaritzburg High Court. The notice however did not include the reason for the sudden withdrawal.

Zuma is now saddled with the responsibility of finding new legal representatives before his next scheduled trial slated for the 17th of May. There is also the possibility that the trial may be postponed due to the recent development.

This will make it the second attorney to withdraw from Zuma’s case. The first attorney, Muzi Sikhakhane withdrew earlier. In addition, Zuma is expected to pay legal feesworth $2 million in charges that have accumulated over the years.

Zuma, 79 is curently facing allegations of corruption, and money laundering amongst others. All which he has fully denied knowledge of. He also expressed his lack of trust in the Zondo Commission, on grounds that it is politically minded to derail his political career.
