The Director-General of the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, Malam Farouk Salim, has in a statement disclosed that going forward, registration of products with names similar to already existing products will be rejected.

This is in a bid to curb the spread of clones of popular products and protect the interest of the initial registrants.

He also mentioned that SON alone could not by itself handle the issues of brand cloning and as such, there is a need to take stock of all products registered by the standard bodies of regulation or agencies.

He didn’t end there, he disclosed that all found wanting will also be penalized.

On a different note, he expressed that SON is looking to increase its engagement with stakeholders.
