The Lower House Parliament of Somalia has voted to keep President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in power for an additional period of two years in a majority vote count of 149.

The bill will need to be approved by the upper chamber before it can be passed into law. The bill has generated a lot of sentiments, especially from the opposition as the Former Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khayre who claims his forces are against the term extension and is soliciting international intervention.

The Upper House parliament has however described the move as unconstitutional, it is unclear whether they will veto the votes or an uprising will begin.

The Somali president whose tenure expired on the 8th of February, this year, welcomed the news and disclosed that Somalians would be able to vote in a new president in two years from now.
