One soldier has paid the supreme price as troops of the Nigerian Army repelled a suspected Boko Haram attack on Gudumbali community in northern Borno State on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Director of Public Relations of the Theatre Command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu.

According to Nwachukwu, the soldier died after a gun battle with the terrorists who had disguised as humanitarian workers during the distribution of relief materials.

Another soldier was also said to have sustained injuries and a truck belonging to the unit was damaged.

Nwachukwu, however, said the army successfully overpowered the attackers, leaving many of them injured and some dead.

A large amount of ammunition including eight rocket-propelled grenades were also recovered, while the troops remain at alert for the fleeing insurgents in the area.
