Media and telecommunications giant, Sky has announced it will withdraw its backing of Team Sky at the end of 2019.
Team Sky, launched in January 2010, has been a major force to reckon with in cycling; with 322 victories and eight Grand Tour triumphs.
The team has produced six of the last seven winners of the Tour de France – Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome
Team Sky and Sky had enjoyed a successful partnership but the various highs have also been enmeshed with various controversies and scandals – allegations of cheating.
The chairman of Team Sky, Graham McWilliam said the decision to end the broadcaster’s involvement with the cycling team had been the team’s decision.
