Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has today renamed the Onikan Stadium to Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson Stadium after the Lt. Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson.
The Brigadier served as the Military Administrator of the Federal territory of Lagos between January 1966 to May 1967 during the reign of General Aguyi Ironsi. He later served as the first Governor of Lagos from May 1967 to July 1975.
Sanwo-Olu renamed the stadium to honour the late Governor who passed away on the 30th of October, 2019 at the very ripe age of 83.
