Sanusi accepts his dethronement as an act of Destiny, thanks supporters for his time in office

Muhammadu Sanusi II was an economist banker and also the 14th Emir of Kano before he was dethroned on 9 March 2020 by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on an alleged case of insubordination.

His Father, Emir Sanusi I experienced the same fate in 1963 after he was dethroned in the same manner. Sanusi who has been replaced by Aminu Bayero son to late Ado Byaero as announced after the approval of the four Kano kingmakers reacted for the first time since his removal from office.

According to Usman Alhaji the secretary to the Kano State government, he said the decision and action carried out by the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje is the governor exercising his power under the state’s Emirates Law 2019.

Sanusi released a more than four minutes’ video message which was recorded in the Kano Palace before Sanusi was escorted out of the security personnel. In the short video, he stated that he gives in to destiny as he accepts his dethronement as an act of destiny.

According to him, the almighty Allah gave him the office in the first place and he is ready to take it back.“As I always say, leadership has predetermined tenure, the days Allah destined are numbered. When the days come to an end one must leave.’’ He stated.

He also admonished everyone, his family children and supporters to remain peaceful and faithful while paying allegiance to the next Emir of Kano that would be appointed. The honour and dignity of the new Emir must also be upheld and guarded as that is also the honour and dignity of the Kano palace.

He also referred back to his grandfather’s dethronement in 1963, he said his heart his gladdened to have served in the same way as Emir Sanusi I, to end his own tenure in the same way as Halifa. Finally, Sanusi thanked his supporters, his people in Kano, titleholders, lieutenants, for their support during his time in the office.
