Residents of Kyiv have braved dark streets of the capital after street lights were switched off in parts of the city in an attempt to save dwindling reserves of power.
Following Russian barrages over the past two weeks which damaged much of the country’s power infrastructure, authorities in major cities announced curbs on the use of street lights, electric-powered public transport and reduction in the frequency of underground trains.
Making their way through the dark streets lit only by the car traffic or torches, the city’s residents said they were happy to suffer blackouts as long as it helped the country survive the winter and brought the nation closer to victory over Russia.
