Redeemer’s University ACEGID named as African Laboratory for Genome Research

The World Health Organization has listed the African Centre of Excellence for the genomics of Infectious Disease (ACEGID), Redeemer’s University, Osun State as one of the regional repositories of bioinformatics centre to provide data sequencing, analysis and technical support to countries in the same region.

The development announced on the 10th of September is to reinforce the genome sequencing of the virus responsible for the COVID-19, the SARS-CoV-2

The Director of the ACEGID, Christian Happi expressed commitment to support other African Countries towards infectious disease research and capacity development. Read his statement below:

This is a recognition of what ACEGID has done for the continent and for the world, it is a great feat. It means that ACEGID has become a globally recognised and competitive entity when it comes to infectious disease research and genomics.”
