Protest: Police Shoot Journalist In Osun

Osun state correspondent of The Nation’s newspaper and one other lady have been shot by a police officer during a protest by some youths at olaiya flyover in Osogbo, the Osun state capital city.

The youths were said to be protesting after burying their friend, Abiola Afolabi, whom they alleged was unjustly killed by the police somewhere in Osogbo, a few months ago

They gathered at Olaiya flyover during the protest and were dispersed by police officers before the two victims, The Nation’s correspondent, Toba Adedeji and another person were incidentally shot.

Speaking, chairman, Osun state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Wasiu Ajadosu charged the Inspector General of Police to redeploy the state commissioner of police within 7 days.

As at the time of filing this report, police public relations officer, Yemisi Opalola was not available to react on the incident while efforts to reach her was abortive.
