President Buhari accepts Onnoghen's retirement

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted Justice Onnoghen’s voluntary retirement.

The president also wrote the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, on the appointment of an additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Sunday. 

The president initiated the process in ‘‘in respect to the provisions of Section 230(2) A&B of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The move would see to the appointment of an additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full list of 21 Justices as provided by the Constitution.
