On Plus TV Africa’s off the press with Amaka Okoye and two other political Analysts Tubosun Akeju and Doctor Femi Adegoke, they both shared their opinions on the Border Closure which has been recently extended to next year.
Tubosun Akeju, a Political Analyst has opined that as much as the border closure can help to improve the community and as much the Nigeria governance tries to emulate China, we need to understand that the dynamics of the global economy has changed.
He referred to it as a ‘’doubled edge sword’’ because on one end most of the products being imported into the country are not produced here, and we need to understand that since these goods are not produced here , the nation has to implement things that can attract the products that are not being produced in the country, if not there would be a continual rise in prices of goods in the economy and then the Nation would risk having another problem, while he also believes that the border closure has created opportunities that should be taken or this closure would serve fruitless.
Moreso, he also supports the decision of the Nigeria’s Minister of foreign affairs ,who stated that a lot of goods coming from ECOWAS countries has to be have been produced in those countries or they won’t be accepted so as to avoid goods that were imported there and then repackaged only to be dumped in Nigeria.
Doctor Femi Adegoke also, backed up Tubosun’s opinion, He also believes that the government needs to pay a close look at all the advantages and disadvantages of this border closure and how much it can affect the people, they need to reassure the people of where exactly they are headed with the decision to close the border.he said ” they need to reassure the people of the benefits of what the long term will be’’.
The federal government border closure decision is an issue that obviously both the government and the citizens cannot be on the same ground until positive results are in view, the closure as affected each and everyone both contractors, wholesaler, and retailers .the citizens can do nothing but wait on these positive returns the government claims the border closure will lead to.
