The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, has raised concern over the proposed #380 per litre of fuel by a forum of state Governors, saying it is a plan to impoverish and subject retirees and other Nigerians to further untold hardship.

The Southwest Chairman of the union, Ayo Ikumapayi, and the Zonal Spokeperson, Olusegun Abatan, made this known during the zonal meeting of the southwest leaders of the NUP in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The Union maintained that the idea of increasing the pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit, PMS, is coming at the wrong time when the country is faced with insecurity and economic hardship.

The pensioners also called on Southwest Governors to immediately commence the implementation of the recently approved consequential adjustment and increase in pension to reflect the new National Minimum Wage.

They further blamed the economic woes facing the nation on lack of creativity in the management of the economy and governance by most government’s appointees and most state governors.
