More than two decades after he ventured into politics, former cricketer, Imran Khan, 65, has been sworn-in as the new prime minister of Pakistan.

He won the election on Friday in a vote at the country’s National Assembly and says his prime concern is to address a financial crisis, as the economy needs a huge bailout.

His platform, the PTI party got the most seats in July’s elections: Mr Khan got the backing of 176 members, while his opponent, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif, won 96 votes.

Mr Khan appeared overcome as he tripped over some of the words of his oath, guided by the country’s President, Mamnoon Hussain.

Members of the 1992 cricket World Cup winning team which Mr Khan captained, were present at the ceremony with senior PTI and military officials.
