Mark Hurd the Co-CEO of Oracle, born in 1957 on the upper east side of New York city and wife to Paula for over 30 years recently passed away due to an undisclosed illness.

Mark Hurd earlier took a leave of absence about a month ago to focus on his health as he wrote in a statement before this unfortunate incident occurred. Mark began his career at the NCR as a junior salesman and worked his way up until he became CEO of the company in 2003.

In 2005 he replaced Carly Fiorina as the CEO of Hewlett Packard but eventually had a falling out at the company before he joined Oracle. A decision rife with a lot of litigation from his previous company and one Larry Ellison described as the most foolish decision the company took since firing Steve Jobs from Apple at the time.

Hurd became a Co-CEO of Oracle in 2014 and has remained so until his leave of absence one month ago. Oracle founder Larry Ellison took over his duties. Here’s what the founder had to say about Mark Hurd

Oracle has lost a brilliant and beloved leader who personally touched the lives of so many of us during his decade at Oracle. All of us will miss Mark’s keen mind and rare ability to analyze, simplify and solve problems quickly.”

Hurd is survived by his wife Paula, and his two daughters
