Operation Safe Haven sues for peace between Beroms and Fulanis

The Commander Operation Safe Haven has cautioned community leaders in Jos South and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State to embrace mechanisms that will help curb violence and promote peace in these communities.

He said this while receiving a Memorandum of Understanding from the Fulanis and Beroms as a way of proceeding lasting solutions to the killings in that area.

In recent weeks, the people of Riyom and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State have experienced series of killings and destruction of farmlands.

In a bid to ensure lasting peace, the Commander Operation Safe Haven had organized a forum for leaders of the two communities to come up with realistic strategies for peaceful coexistence.

The Commander further stressed that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility of all community leaders.

Leaders of the Berom and Fulani communities in their submissions called for the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of crimes in their domain and for the government to also implement a white paper released in 2015 on the way forward.

Representatives of the state government said the government is ready to work with security operatives and community leaders to entrench peace.

Leaders of the Fulanis and Beroms later submitted their documents for onward delivery to the government.
