One dead, 8 infected with Lassa Fever in Delta State

Delta state recorded 8 cases of individuals infected with Lassa fever with one reportedly dead. The 7 other patients are under severe health care at Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State as revealed by Delta State Commissioner of Health, Dr Mordi Anonye.
It was gathered that there are 120 persons under strict surveillance and check for Laser fever. Dr Mordi stated that there is no cause for alarm has trained health personnel is put in charge of the Special Lassa Fever ward at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

The government is not sitting with folded arms as they put plans in place to ensure that patients affected by the Lassa fever are cured and also to abhor the spread of the disease. Personal Protective Equipment PPE is provided by the government to hospitals and other health centres.

‘Also, health workers are being trained on how to handle patients for infection and prevention control as regards high index of suspicion cases and also enlighten the people on how food should be preserved and protected to avoid being contaminated.” Dr Mordi Anonye assured.
