An election monitoring group, Yiaga Africa, has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s use of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, to distribute sensitive materials in Ondo State.

The group said politicians could use the partisan NURTW members to undermine the election by deliberately causing late commencement of polls due to refusal to convey election officials and materials to the polling unit.

The Co-chairman of Yiaga Africa, Dr. Aisha Abdullahi, who spoke at a pre-election press briefing in Akure, the state capital, urged the INEC to collaborate with security agencies with a view to arresting any NURTW member who made any attempt to undermine the election.

Dr. Abdullahi advised the electoral umpire to ensure early payment of allowance of adhoc staff as well as sustained the use of election result viewing portal.

YIAGA Africa also urged the INEC to pay special attention to the logistics challenges of riverine areas of Ese-Odo and Ilaje Local Government.
