OGUN TO USE ECA SHARE FOR AMMUNITION

The federal government has approved the request by Ogun State to use its share of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account to purchase arms and ammunition, as well as other logistics, to beef up security within the state.

The approval followed a formal request by the Ogun State House of Assembly. The resolution for the virement was passed by the state Assembly on Thursday, following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Adeyinka Mafia.

The motion was seconded by Olawale Alausa, who is a minority leader, and supported by all lawmakers through a voice note. The request, which was initially sent by the governor Ibikunle Amosun on May 30, was favourably received by the speaker on behalf of the House. it was subsequently opened for debate.

The reason for the motion, as explained to the assembly, is to tackle the insecurity challenges faced in the state, in particular, and the nation at large.
