ochanya case resumes today

A new date has been set for the court hearing on culpable homicide and rape of Ochanya Ogbanje, which failed to take place on Thursday at the Magistrate Court Makurdi as a result of the magistrate’s conference holding in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The court, however, fixed December 4, to continue with the trial.

Plans by the Benue State Government through its Ministry of Justice to take over the prosecution of the case, therefore, encountered a temporal set back.

The hope of mothers, youth, and several concerned Nigerians was dashed at the Magistrate Court, venue of the trial of 51-year old Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor, for the repeated sexual assault of the late 13-year old Ochanya Ogbanje, which has now become a household name.

The disappointed family’s main concern is that the case is not being accorded the seriousness it deserves.

State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mike Gusa, however, explained that a team of lawyers from the Ministry were in the court to take over the case but for the adjournment.

Victor Ogbuja, one of the prime suspects, is still on the run.
