NPOPC Chairman declares Birth & Death Certificates are Free

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPopC), Chief Eze Duruiheoma, says registration by the commission for both birth and death certificates are free of charge.

This was made in response to allegations by those who claimed to have been charged the sums of N2,000 and above at the different registration points established by the commission.

He specifically stated that the certificate is free for children from 0-days to 17 years from the date of birth, defaulting to make the appropriate registrations within the stipulated time attracts a fee of N2,000 along with a show of affidavit from the court.

He continued that any extra charges would be by the private firms who use it for the maintenance of the facilities used in processing the documents, and also to improve the quality of their service, avoiding replication and forgery.
