The Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NPLGA) together with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), have partnered with the Lagos State Government (LASG) to get rid of sharp practices in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry.
This comes as the DPR has concluded plans to introduce new guidelines for operators in the sector by engaging stakeholders in the LPG sector.
The president of NPLGA, Mr Nuhu Yakubu said that he believes that the Director General of DPR, Mordecai Ladan will work diligently with the Lagos state government, with the support of NPLGA to ensure that sharp practices are curbed, and to achieve best standards and practices in the industry. He also said that the NPLGA is standing by the government to lend any support that it needs to stamp out these negative practices.
He said that in the past year, prices of LPG have been going down and that they want to work with the Lagos government to continue this trend so that LPG is readily available to and affordable for the people.
Zonal Controller, DPR, Lagos, Oluwole Akinyosoye disclosed at NIPCO safety week, that the DPR is talking to NIPCO and has engaged the NNP to ensure that trucks being used to move the product are fit for purpose to avoid explosions or any issues during transit. This is why the LPG guidelines are being reviewed again.
Akinyosoye explained that: “NIPCO has exhibited exemplary behavior in the area of safety and their operations generally. I have not received any negative report on the company, and I am saying that with all sense of responsibility”.
