A Coalition of Northern Groups has embarked on a peaceful protest in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, demanding the rearrest of Habu Dantabawa and 17 others who were recently arrested and released by the police.

One of the leaders of the protesters, Abdulhamid Mohammed, says the security agencies should be allowed to carry out their constitutional duties of protecting and securing the country from criminal elements.

The protest commenced from the Gusau Central Roundabout to the House of Assembly, where the protesters delivered a letter to the Speaker for President Muhammadu Buhari. The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions.

The Coalition of the Northern Groups also gave three days ultimatum for the rearrest of Dantabawa and 17 others, or else, they will mobilize their members nationwide to stage another protest until justice is done.

The Chairman, Committee on Basic, Secondary, and Non-Formal Education, Alhassan Kanoma, who addressed the protesters on behalf of the Speaker, assured them that the lawmakers with the executives are working to improve the security situation.

The protest drew participants from Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, and Katsina States, among others.
