Northeast Governors hold fifth meeting in Taraba to address issues facing the region

The Northeast Governors’ Forum, NEGF, has held its fifth meeting in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, to address issues facing the region, and proffer solutions.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, called for better collaboration between the security agencies and host communities, in fighting insecurity in the Northeast.

The Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, hosted the Governors from the Northeast sub-region for their fifth meeting in Jalingo, the state’s capital, Tuesday.

He said that the Forum must speak in one voice to address social, economic, and security challenges facing the region.

He also called for the commencement of the Mambila Hydropower Project which has not been captured in the 2021 budget.

He similarly spoke on the exclusivity of natural resources exploration to the Federal Government. 

The Chairman of the forum, Zulum, called for the involvement of host communities in the fight against insecurity in the Northeast, through the gathering of local intelligence.

He also commended the recent successes recorded by the Nigerian Army, in the fight against insurgency. 

The Chairman said the Forum will also collaborate with the international community in all the areas of importance. 

The Northeast Governors have gone into a closed-door meeting and are expected to issue a communique at the end of their deliberation.
