Four months after the destruction of the Cross River state-owned Covid-19 Laboratory and Testing Center by the #EndSARS protesters turned hoodlums in Calabar, the state government has completed the renovation of the centre with a commendation coming from the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA.

The Cross River State Chapter of the NMA gave the commendations during a visit to the testing center located within the Lawrence Henshaw Memorial Hospital in Calabar South Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Health and Chairman Covid-19 Task Force Team, Dr. Betta Edu, who received the medical union, said that citizens with any symptoms of Covid-19 can now go for Coronavirus tests free of charge.

Edu called for partnership between the NMA and the Cross River State Government towards providing quality and affordable health care services to the people of Cross River State.

The Chairman of NMA in Cross River State, Dr. Innocent Abang, who led the inspection team to the testing centre, promised that the association will work with the state government in an effort to provide quality healthcare to the citizenry.

The #EndSARS protest turned hoodlums’ attack had in October 2020 vandalised the major Covid-19 testing centre in Cross River State leaving citizens with only the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, and the General Hospital Ogoja, both with a small capacity to administer the Coronavirus tests in the State.
