The Nigeria Labour Congress says in spite of the successes in 2018, the year remains one of the most traumatic for workers especially given the failure of the government to enact and implement the new National Minimum Wage of 30,000 Naira.

A statement signed by NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said government’s dilly-dallying on the issue has strained government -labour relations with a potential for a major national strike which could just be days away.

The NLC says it is using this opportunity of the new year festivities to appeal to the government to do the needful by urgently transmitting the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly as it urged workers to fully mobilize for a prolonged national strike and enforce their right.

Wabba said the strike has become inevitable as the last option for labour and craved the understanding and support of all Nigerians and businesses.

Similarly, President of the Trade Union Congress, Bala Kaigama, wants all politicians to espouse the spirit of sportsmanship in the forthcoming elections.

The TUC said it can no longer tolerate government’s deliberate refusal to pay the 30, 000 Naira National Minimum Wage as agreed as it called on members to begin mobilisation throughout the country and should not be blamed for breaching industrial peace.

Kaigama urged Nigerians to vote out irresponsible politicians in the coming elections over poor concern for workers welfare.

  1. The next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not fail me as much as this particular one.
I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read, nonetheless I
really believed you would have something helpful to talk about.

All I hear is a bunch of complaining about something you could fix if you
weren’t too busy searching for attention.
