Nigerian Stock Exchange: SEC wants government-owned companies to be listed

Government-owned companies should be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. That’s a call from the Securities and Exchange Commission that such a move would boost investors’ confidence as well as attract investments from foreigners.

The Acting Director-General of SEC,  Mary Uduk, commended senators on the efforts made so far in ensuring adequate legislation for the capital market as part of a courtesy visit from the Senate Committee on Capital Market to SEC.

At the just concluded Capital Market Committee Meeting last week, an extension in the deadline for regularisation to December 31, 2019, was given thereby reducing the volume of unclaimed dividends in the Nigerian capital market.”
