The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, has described the Super Eagles friendly with the Three Lions on June 2 at the Wembley Stadium as more than just a game.
Arkwright mentioned that England is taking the match seriously as a major part of its preparations for the World Cup in Russia. Speaking at an interaction with the Nigeria Football Federation top executives in Abuja yesterday, the envoy hinted that a number of events have been planned around the match.
Arkwright also noted the events would both in the United Kingdom and Nigeria. In his response, NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, pointed out that the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom is also involved in efforts to ensure the match is a huge success, coming less than two weeks before the opening game of the 2018 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the NFF leadership has turned down calls for the inclusion of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama in the World Cup team.
Nigeria has been facing a goalkeeping crisis after the first choice, Carl Ikeme, was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. Available options so far include Deportivo La Coruna keeper, Francis Uzoho, Enyimba FC keeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Chippa United goalie Daniel Akpeyi.
