Journalists in Niger State have given the state government seven days ultimatum to expedite action for the safe release of the students of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School, Tegina, in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

This is one of the ten-point communique which was jointly signed by the State Council Chairman, Abubakar Nmodu, and his Secretary, Usman Chiji.

The State Council while congratulating the government for the speedy release of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sani Idris, who was abducted and released less than a week, also charged the government to use a similar approach to release the kidnapped victims with the bandits.

The union also expressed concern over the excessive operation of the Taskforce on the ban of commercial motorcycles, as they keep terrorizing the people, including a journalist who was detained for a day in the line of his duty.

It also observed that members of the Taskforce are not applying the professional approach in the discharge of their operations.
