New York City is the hardest-hit state by the coronavirus in the United States. The pandemic disease has affected lifestyles, businesses amongst others in the city and even globally. Couples who had planned before the outbreak of the pandemic disease to have a dreamy wedding, brides who couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle and hold the biggest party had their plans crumbling in the face of the pandemic.
However, today, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order that allows these couples to get a license to get married virtually. This was announced by the secretary to the governor, Melissa DeRosa. According to Cuomo, there is no excuse to not get married to the love of your life, you can say you ‘I do’ virtually on Zoom and begin the journey of a hundred years with your partner.
Zoom is a video conferencing technology that has been intensely used since lockdown measures put in place. Many employees who need to work remotely now hold virtual meetings with their employers and get work running like usual. However, the holy matrimony over Zoom still has rules to be followed. No recorded videos are allowed. Both couples, priests or clergy, and witnesses must be live during the program.
Daniel Wolfe attended his friend’s marriage over Zoom. While this may be interesting, it has some not so smooth part. The free version of Zoom only offers 40 minutes of conference video before you are cut off from the group meeting. This may interrupt you at the most climax or crucial part of the ceremony.
