Nelson Chamisa has been confirmed today as the leader of the MDC, the leading opposition party in Zimbabwe effective today.

Chamisa emerged winner challenging Douglas Mwonzora to the surprise of many as the former Mayor was once considered a potential party leader.

Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi-Kore emerged successful for the vice president’s slot. All four will function as Co-Vice Presidents.

Speaking at the congress, Chamisa promised that the party would ush for early elections to solve the ongoing economic situation in the country as “5 years is too long.”
