The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Capt. Muhtar Usman, says national carrier, Nigeria Air, will begin operating by the end of this year as scheduled by the Federal Government.

Capt. Usman told newsmen on Tuesday that as long as the NCAA could deliver on the two major certificates; the Air Transport Licence and the Aircraft Operators Certificate, within the 90-day period specified by law, the proposed December take-off date could be a reality.

According to him, the number of those critical of the proposed national carrier project had dropped as a majority of Nigerians are beginning to accept the idea.

The DG stated, “The Nigeria Air project arrangements will continue until it is delivered to the Nigerian people.”

”Nigerians have been yearning for the gaps created by the lack of a strong and viable carrier that will meet the demands and potential of both the domestic market, regional and the international markets to be filled.”
