The NBA Team owners and its players have voted to have a shortened season in order to allow players to participate in the Tokyo Olympic games next year.

This was announced by the International Olympic Committee President, Thomas Bach, last week Wednesday.

In a statement, the IOC President said the season which will commence on December 22, will be a shortened NBA campaign, to allow the best players of the game to take part in the games.

The Olympic games were postponed in late May as a result of the global pandemic. The Olympic games which will now take place in July 2021, will still be called the 2020 games.

Tokyo will host the international games for the second time, having first hosted games in October 1964.

However, Japan also hosted the 1972 Winter Olympic Games in Sapporo, Hokkaidō, and the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Nagano.
