Muslims end Ramadan fast on Sunday with no sighting of new moon

Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Sa’ad Abubakar II, has declared Sunday, May 23, as the first day of Shawwal 1441, after the Hijrah.

The Sultan made the declaration following non-sighting of the new moon by the National Moon-Sighting Committees all over the country to signal the end of the Ramadan fast.

Fasting will accordingly continue for the 30th day on Saturday and will only be completed on Sunday.

The Sultan enjoined Muslim faithful to fervently pray for the country and the world for an end to Covid-19 pandemic which continues to ravage humanity.

With the declaration, the Eid-El Fitr will now be marked on Sunday.

The Jamaatul Nasril Islam, JNI has advised Muslims to observe the Eid prayers at home to keep safe and halt spread of the virus.
