The parliament in Mozambique has lifted the immunity of the former finance minister, Manuel Chang, under the international arrest warrant issued by the U.S.

Mr Chang was arrested last December on a count of alleged involvement in a $2bn fraudulent loan.

The immunity was withdrawn on the request initiated by the office of the attorney general in Mozambique and the Supreme court.

We have deliberated in favour of the request but the Supreme Court knows what to do,” Antonio Amelia, parliament deputy speaker told reporters in the capital Maputo.

“And we believe that the Supreme Court will respect the law.”
