Yesterday, Monday, 6th of April, the Lagos state commissioner for health Akin Abayomi announced that all patients with mild cases of the COVID 19 virus will be moved to the isolation centre at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Stadium, to the newly erected isolation centre.
The isolation facility was erected with the collaboration of the Guarantee Trust Bank and the Lagos state government and is said to hold 100 beds.
According to the state Commissioner of Health, the isolation facility will be opened and fully functional as of today, Tuesday, 7th of April 2020.
Mr Akin Abayomi said that the reason the government made the decision to move the patients with mild cases of the COVID 19 virus was so that the health practitioners at the infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba can concentrate on the patients with more severe cases of the COVID 19 virus.
He said that the new facility at Onikan is fully equipped with the necessary medical instruments and a well trained medical team to deal with and treat the COVID 19 patients with the milder symptoms.
