LeBron James lifts Lakers past Cavs in homecoming

In his first match at the Quicken Loans Arena since leaving Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent in the summer, LeBron James helped his LA Lakers team ease past the Cavs 109-105.

The beloved son of Ohio dropped 32 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists in a dominant performance.

James was welcomed warmly as he received a standing ovation from the fans when introduced and also had a video tribute played during a timeout call in the first quarter with 08:09 to go.

The video was a compilation of his stints with Cleveland Cavaliers, brief highlights of the title win in 2015/16 and clips of James opening his school and his impact on the community.

The video ended with a “thank you LeBron” message.

Meanwhile, on the court, the Cavs put up a spirited performance and were ahead 99-91 mid-fourth quarter, before James stepped up to secure victory for the Lakers.

The Cavs are now 2-14 to the season and are dealing with a couple of off-court issues, such as JR Smith’s impending exit from the team, Kevin Love’s injury woes, and front office issues.
