Poor management of oil spills, lack of corporate will to clean up spillage and remediate spill sites and a lack of adequate sanctions for erring oil-producing companies form the shocking revelations discovered by lawmakers during the investigative hearing into oil spill clean-ups and remediation of oil-producing sites by the house of representatives.

The House Adhoc committee investigating oil spill cleanup in the Niger Delta while receiving a report from the Department of Petroleum Resources says it is worried at the lack of will and attention given to the environment by oil-producing companies.

The Chairman of the committee while assuring stakeholders of fairness during the hearing process, however, says there is a need to find a lasting solution to a problem that has caused great difficulties for residents in oil-producing communities
