Lagos State Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa: Lockdown in Lagos State has not been effective

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Nigeria, Lagos state has been the epic centre of the virus in the country with 582 confirmed cases in the state.

Following this, the State has put in place lockdown measures in a bid to flatten the infection cycle of the pandemic disease. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly disclosed that the lockdown measure however put in place on Lagos state is not working.

On 23 April, Obasa took to Twitter to share this in a tweet. He gave kudos to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, and the governor of Lagos State Babatunde Sanwo-Olu for their obvious effort in fighting the spread of COVID-19 in Lagos state.

He, however, stated that the lockdown is not quite effective in the state and went further to suggest that the lockdown be domesticated by actively involving the local government. According to Obasa, the same way an incident command of available at the state level, we can copy the same at Local government areas with a really high rising number of pandemic diseases.

The house of assembly speakers shared that if the lockdown would continue as the country fights COVID-19, it’s imperative that the state moves with all strategies. Lagos state is currently on an on-going two-week extended lockdown as announced in a national address by the President of the country.

Muhammadu Buhari on April 13, announced the extended lockdown for Lagos, FCT, and Ogun. However, other states in the country had followed suit.
