The use of Hijab will not be allowed in Lagos public schools until the Supreme Court rules on an appeal seeking to upturn the decision of the court of Appeal.

Lagos state commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdulateef Abdulhakeem who made the position known on a television programme, said the government would not enforce the appellate court’s decision on the use of Hijab.

The appellate court had on July 21, 2016, ruled that the use of Hijab be reinstated in public schools.

The Commissioner also debunked reports that the government was planning to commence paying salaries to religious leaders in the state, saying the claim was totally untrue and misleading.
