Kenya recognizes offsprings of single parents in new Military Policy

Dependants of single parents within the Kenya Defence Forces will now be recognized and able to share the same benefits as those of legally married couples in a new ruling.

The new reforms set in motion by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Robert Kibochi will now see dependents of single parents access Kenya Defence Forces sponsored schools, medical care, housing, legal and financial advisory and support in death.

“The military has moved to acknowledge the single parent family structure, including the dependants of KDF parents so as to ensure that the welfare of every dependant is well taken care of,” Col Zipporah Kioko, KDF spokesperson

Based on a recent study conducted by Dr. James Kimani close to 45% of Kenyan children do not live with both parents, and single parenting is a lot higher in females than males.
