JOHESU – Joint Health Sector Unions is having a critical meeting today with respect to resuming their suspended nationwide strike.

The strike was suspended last May and a timeline which was given to the government to resolve the issues elapsed today.

“The meeting will determine the format of the strike and how it should go,” Ogbonna Chimela, the national vice chairman of JOHESU said to news reporters.

JOHESU is a union covering all health workers except doctors. They have been demanding improved work conditions and pay increase since 2014, which has resulted in a number of Strike actions over time.

The last strike which started last year April 17 lasted for six weeks, leading to the death of many patients, and a lot more without medical attention.
