U.S President, Joe Biden has now withdrawn the executive orders that prevent the downloads of TikTok, WeChat, and other similar apps with Chinese affiliations in the United States.
Donald Trump had ordered for the use of the apps in the States to be prohibited but a court order prevented it from taking effect.
While the order has now been reversed, Biden has directed the Commerce Department to monitor similar applications like TikTok that could possibly affect the U.S national security and recommend within 120 days ways to better protect data acquired or controlled by foreign countries.
While TikTok is yet to issue a statement, the Chinese commerce ministry has lauded the move as a right step and hopes the U.S will treat Chinese companies fairly without politicizing economic and trade issues.
TikTok has an estimated 100 million users in the United States alone, while WeChat has been downloaded 19 million times
