Jerry Rawlings, former Ghanaian president dies to COVID-19

Ghana Former President, Jerry Rawlings, has passed at the age of 73, due to complications relating to the Coronavirus.

This occured months after the president buried his mother. Rawlings is one of the highly respected leaders in Africa, as he once served as a Military leader in Ghana, before becoming a politician and ruling from 1981 to 2001.

Mr Rawlings , when resuming power was known as the flight sergeant of the Ghana Air Force involving coup d’état in 1979.

However, his coup against the military government was unsuccessful in 1979, and this happened weeks before democratic election were set to take place . He later resigned from the military and founded his own party, The National Democratic Congress, where he became the first president of the of The Fourth Republic.

In 1996 , he was re-elected and spent yet another four years in office. Rawlings is married to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, and they have four kids .
