The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Niger State Chapter says it will challenge any move by the state government to reduce Local Government Council Chairmen’s tenure from three years to two.

The Chairman of the Advisory Council, Mamman Musa, disclosed this during a press conference in Minna, the Niger State capital, as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day.

Musa stressed that local government is the closest tier to the people, especially at the grassroots, across the country.

The Chairman maintained that granting full autonomy to local governments will fast-track development, and improve the well-being of the people.

The Secretary of the Advisory Council, Bello Maikujeri, and the Director-General, Aliyu Dagari, added their voices.

The Advisory Council further said it will continue to monitor the trends of events across the state and will advise the government where necessary.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council is an umbrella body of all political parties present in Niger State.
