The presidency has responded to criticisms by opposition politicians on the proposed purchased of military hardware for combating insurgency to the tune of $1 billion.

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media, Garba Shehu, said the purchase could not be made without the approval of the National Assembly, adding that the purchase could not, therefore, be said to be secretive.

Speaking on a broadcast platform earlier today, Garba Shehu stated that there is nothing secretive or controversial as the Federal executive council had also debated and approved the contents of the proposal.

According to him, funds are required by the police, military and other security agents in order to upgrade the depleting stock.

Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a separate reaction, also admonished critics of the government to stop ascribing the approval of funds to combat insurgents to politics and appealed for more investigations before reactions are made public.
