India offers Nigeria $5bn line of credit

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhay Thakur, during a meeting with the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has said Nigeria can explore a five-billion-dollar line of credit with low-interest rates from India.

According to Mr. Shittu, the Prime Minister of India made available to Africa, ten-billion-dollar credit line during India – Africa Forum Summit but however noted that out of the total amount, only fifty per cent had been utilised.

According to the Indian envoy, Nigeria had the opportunity to explore the credit line which had an interest rate of only 1.75 per cent.

Mr. Thakur also said India was making moves to upgrade the bilateral agreement existing between both countries in the areas of human capacity development, e-government, industrialisation and Information and Communications Technology.
