Stakeholders have dismissed claims by the Academic Staff Union of Universities that the Sexual harassment Bill being sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is targeted at University lecturers.

The National President of ASUU Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi had described the bill as vindictive and an attempt at eroding law and order in the University community.

However several Gender rights advocates at the recent webinar held by the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists with the theme “Combating Sexual Harassment to Uphold Ethics in Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Institutions”, say ASUU has gotten the intent of the bill wrong and is placing itself on the wrong side of history.

They say that the bill is timely and will protect vulnerable students. They also insists the bill will reduce sexual harassment in tertiary institutions which have become a menace.
